acme thread, should I even start

Need a short acme for a vise screw I'm replacing. The Logan has never cut one in my hands. I can buy the screw. I could also spend a weekend learning why people buy the screw. Looking for the version of this where someone says don't.

If it's one screw and the size is a catalog size, buy it. Cut acme when you need a size they don't sell or when you want the practice and the part can be scrap. A form tool for acme has to be the angle, not a guess. Guessing is the weekend.

Bought the screw. It fits. The weekend stayed a weekend. I'll cut one when a catalog can't, and not before, which is a sentence I should embroider.
