Starting a wedge-type QCTP for the Logan. Steel is from the surplus pile at the place on Broadway, so the alloy is 'it was cheap and it spark-tested like steel.' It will be ugly. I'm not trying to clone a commercial one. I want the tool to stop being a rocker post that changes height every time I breathe.

Ugly is fine. Datum is not fine. Pick one face, stone it, and measure everything from that. If you mill the dovetail 'by eye' you will redo it. Ask me how I know. You don't have to ask. I know.

The dovetail is drunk. Piotr, if you're around: how much error before I should just mill it off and start the block over? It's a shaper cut. Don't laugh. Ok, laugh. I got impatient and the clapper had a mood.

If the slide rocks, recut. If it only measures 0.05 mm hollow and still locks without lifting the tool, you can live. Rocking is the fail. Number without the rock test doesn't help.

Been gone. Kid was born in May and the shop was a shelf for two months. Dovetail is recut. It locks. The handle is a bit of 4140 that looks like a handle if you squint and like a mistake if you don't. I'm using it this week on purpose.

Lock is the whole tool. If it locks, you're done. Pretty is optional and usually a lie anyway.

Used it all month. Holds height better than the rocker, which is not a high bar. Thanks Piotr. I'm not painting it. Paint would be admitting it's finished, and I still want a second holder.
