Carriage hits a notch about a foot from the chuck. Same place every time. I can see a tooth that's shorter than its neighbors. Do I file the short one shorter, or live with a pothole.

Don't file it. You'll make a ramp and then a second pothole. If the tooth is bruised, stone the bruise only. If it's actually missing metal, that inch of travel gets avoided or the rack gets replaced. Filing is how a small dent becomes the way the lathe is.

Stoned a burr I didn't see until the light was right. The pothole is now a seam. I can live with a seam. Rack stays.
