compound swivel is stiff until it isn't, then it's loose

The compound base on the 9 inch either won't swing or it swings and won't stay. The nuts under the flange are the kind you round off if you're in a hurry. I was in a hurry last week and one of them looks tired. I stopped before I made it worse.

One tired nut means the clamp is uneven, so it binds and then lets go. Replace the nut before you round it the rest of the way. Snug them in a star, a little at a time, with the compound where you actually want it. Don't crank one and then wonder why it cocks.

New nut. Snugged in a star, which I had to look up and then felt obvious. It stays where I put it. Hurry is expensive. That's the note.
