are these scrape marks or just a worn honest bed

Logan bed, near the chuck, has a patch that looks flaked in a pattern. The middle of the bed is smoother and shinier. I can't tell if somebody scraped it back to life or if I'm looking at wear and wishing. Picture didn't upload. Again.

Shinier in the middle is the carriage living there. Flakes near the chuck can be a scrape, or they can be the casting breaking out. Run a fingernail across it. Scrape flats have edges. Pits have holes. This is not mystical.

Indicate the carriage along the bed with a test bar between centers. Pattern does not matter if the bar says two thou in ten inches. Pattern matters if you plan to scrape. You are not scraping this month.

Fingernail says flakes, not pits. Bar between centers, ten inches, a thou and a bit of nod, worse at the headstock end. I'm not scraping. I'm cutting shorter work and stopping the speech I was about to give myself.

Good. The scrape fantasy is how people ruin a bed that was still a bed.

the chip is the picture
