the lathe walked during a facing cut

Heavy facing cut, 8 inch disk, HSS, too brave. The cabinet 9A stepped sideways on the floor. Not a lot. Enough that I noticed the chip pan was no longer where I left it. Bolts are in the cabinet feet. The feet were not in the floor.

Lag the feet or stop taking heroic cuts. A lathe that walks is telling you the cut is the wrong cut. Mine is lagged into a timber, not the slab, because the slab isn't mine.

Also your tool was rubbing or digging. An 8 inch face on a 9 inch is not where you prove manhood. Smaller DOC, sharper tool, then talk about anchors.

Both notes taken. I lagged it into the plywood and the joist I could find, which I know is a compromise, and I cut the face again at a depth I could hear. It stayed. The first cut was stupid. Leaving that on the record.
