clausing saddle sits proud of the way on one side

Brother's Clausing, 5914. The saddle, on the tailstock side, has daylight under one way I can see with a flashlight. Other side is kissing the bed. He says it's been like that. Carriage still moves. I don't know if we're looking at a shim that walked or a saddle that was never right.

Feel for a shim or a felt that bunched. If the keep is loose on that side, the saddle can sit cocked and still crank. Tighten nothing until you see why it lifted. Forcing it down bends a keeper.

Felt had doubled over on itself like a sock. Pulled it, saddle sat down, still a little light on that side but not a cave. We left the screws where they were. He owes me lunch and I owe the board a less dramatic description next time.
