logan, hss blanks, i keep grinding a shape i saw in a video and the tool either rubs or it digs. what angle do you use for plain mild, not a lecture about metallurgy. side, front, and how much relief before im just making a knife

About 10 degrees of side relief, 10 of front, a few degrees of back rake if you want it to cut mild without a fight. The stone will lie to your eye. Sight down the flank. If you see a heel, you're rubbing, and no video fixes a heel.
the chip is the picture

Stop copying the thumbnail. Grind one tool, cut, look at the chip. Curl is cutting. Dust is rubbing. You can learn that in an afternoon if you stop switching shapes every five minutes.
