transposing gears so this inch lathe will cut metric

The Logan is inch. I need M12x1.75 more often than I admit. I can approximate with the closest tpi and I can hear the error in the nut. Is anyone here actually running a 127 tooth, or is the answer 'buy the tap and stop performing.'

127 tooth compound is the honest way. Closest tpi is a short thread and a lie. If you only need a nut now and then, tap it. If you cut metric every week, buy the gear once.

I cut metric on an inch machine with the 127. It works. It also eats a Saturday the first time you set it. Don't do it for one nut.

Ordered the gear. Tapped the one nut I needed this week so the job didn't wait on my pride. I'll report if the Logan accepts the new tooth count or spits it on the floor.

It fits. M12 nut goes on without the argument. Setup was a Saturday, as threatened. Leaving the gear in the drawer, not on the banjo, so I don't thread the next inch job at 1.75 by accident.
