steady rest, from scrap, taking the year it takes

Starting a steady for the Logan because the one I don't own is the one I need for a shaft next spring. Cast iron from a machine that died. I'm not promising monthly updates. The pattern is cardboard and already wrong.

Make the bore fit the bed you have, not the picture in your head. Fingers want to be adjustable and lock without springing the frame. If the frame springs, the shaft will taper and you will blame the lathe.

Cardboard pattern is in the trash. Cast is rough-bored. I disappeared because of a job that was not this. Fingers are not made. Frame doesn't spring when I clamp it in the vise, which is not the test Piotr asked for, and I know it.

Bolt it to the carriage ways, or wherever it actually lives, and then lean on a finger. The vise is a different machine.

It lives on the bed now. Leaned on a finger. It moved. I'm adding a rib I didn't want to add. Winter project, which is what I called it in June.

Rib is on. Fingers are brass, because that's what I had, and they lock. Ran a 3/4 shaft that used to whip. It doesn't. The shaft next spring got turned in February out of spite. Done enough.
