moving a logan without a forklift

Need to get a 10 inch Logan out of a basement in Havre. Stairs turn once. No forklift, no engine hoist that fits. I've got a come-along, a furniture dolly, and a neighbor who thinks he's stronger than he is.

I moved my 9A down a hay-loft ladder in 2015 with three people and a lot of blankets and I would not do the Logan that way. Strip the tailstock and the motor first so you're not carrying the whole lie. Even then, rent the hoist. I know you said it doesn't fit. Make it fit or take the machine apart at the cabinet if it's a cabinet.

Take the motor and the tailstock off before you recruit the neighbor. We slid a 9 inch on pipe sections, three of them, rotated. Come-along anchored to the truck frame, not to the railing. The railing will leave with you.

Motor and tailstock came off. Pipe sections worked until the turn, then we stripped the carriage too because I got honest about the weight. It's in the shop. Neighbor is mad at me and also fine. Thanks ruth.
