spindle nose threads are dinged, chuck fights me

The chuck I couldn't get off in September is off. The nose threads have two dings that catch the chuck halfway on. I can file them. I'm asking before I file a spindle, because that sentence sounds like a mistake.

A file on the ding, not on the thread. Stone the high spot until the chuck passes. You are not recutting the nose. If you recut the nose you will be back here with a chuck that wobbles and a shorter spindle.

Stoned the two spots. Chuck goes on without the catch. Runout is what it was, which was never great. I did not become a spindle shop. Relieved.
