9A, cross slide is nice and bored in the morning and stiff after an hour of work. Not seized. Just heavy, and it gets worse if I'm taking a lot of facing cuts. Gib screws haven't moved. Ways are oiled. I don't want to start buying screws.

If it's only warm, I'd still look at the gib before the screw. Heat grows the slide, the gib that was 'fine' cold gets tight, and facing loads it in the direction that shows the high spot. Feel for a tight point in the middle of travel versus tight everywhere.

mine does this if i oil it with the thick stuff when the shop is already hot. morning its fine because everything shrank. try a thinner oil on the cross slide only and see if the afternoon gets honest. dont take the screw out yet

Gibbs is right about the tight spot. Find it before you touch a screw. If it's tight the whole travel once warm, it's the gib setting, not a bent screw. A bent screw is tight in one place cold too.

Tight in the middle, not the whole travel. I backed the gib off a shade and the afternoon is usable. I'll leave the screw in the machine. Thanks for talking me out of the order.
