gib on the cross slide, I tightened it until it lied

There was play in the cross slide. I tightened the gib screws until the play stopped. Now the handle has a tight spot halfway through the travel and a finish pass picks up a ridge there. I can undo it. I would like to undo it correctly instead of randomly.

Back the screws off until the tight spot is gone, then bring them up until the slide will not droop under its own weight at full extension. A gib with no play and a tight spot is bent or dirty. Clean it before you call it adjusted.

There was a chip under the gib. I would like to say I noticed it first. I didn't. Tight spot is gone. A little play is back and the ridge isn't. I'll leave the little play alone.
