drill wandering in the tailstock, 3/8 then 1/2

Started a hole with a center drill, followed with 3/8, then 1/2. The 1/2 walked enough that the hole is oval if I believe the pin gage, which I do, unhappily. Tailstock was aligned in the spring. It is not spring.

A twist drill will follow a bent start and make it worse as it gets bigger. Check the 3/8 hole before you blame the 1/2. Also the tailstock clamp we talked about years ago creeps when the shoe glazes. Alignment in the spring doesn't sign a contract.

3/8 was already off. I didn't check because I wanted to be done. Bored the last bit with a bar and the pin fits. Tailstock shoe is on the list again. The list is winning.
