carbide again, different atlas, same argument

New to me, same size Atlas, and the CCMT that behaved on the last one chatters on this one unless I take a deeper cut than the lathe likes. I'm not switching to HSS to make a point. I want the insert to work on a light machine. Speeds are the plate, about 400 on 1 inch mild.

The plate is a suggestion from a stiffer lathe. Drop the speed. And a light machine will chatter with a blunt insert no matter how you feel about HSS. Sharp edge, smaller nose, less stickout. You can keep the insert. You can't keep the stickout you had on a different lathe.

Gus is right and he doesn't need me to bless it. If the tool is sticking out past the holder 'because it reaches,' it doesn't reach. It springs. Chatter is the spring, heard.

Mine doesn't chatter and it's the same insert. I think some of you want carbide to fail.

Nobody wants it to fail. Your lathe is stiffer or your stickout is shorter or you're not hearing it. Delaney, shorten it and slow it. Report the stickout in inches, not in feelings.

Stickout was an inch and a quarter. It's half an inch now. Speed one belt slower. It cuts without the scream. The insert stays. Ken, I'm not on your side or Gus's. I'm on the side of the lathe I actually own.
