insert keeps losing the corner on brass

CCMT that I use for everything, including 360 brass. It cuts great for a minute and then the corner is a crater. I figured brass was the easy one. Rpm around a thousand, light cuts. What's eating it?

Brass wants no back rake or it grabs and takes the corner with it. Your 'everything' insert has rake. Grind an HSS bit with zero rake for brass. Stop using the steel insert as a religion.

Also confirm it's 360 and not a leaded grade you wish was 360. Free-machining brass is forgiving. A grabby alloy plus a raked insert is the crater.

It's stamped 360, so that part I got right. Ground a zero-rake HSS and it stopped eating corners. I'll keep the insert for steel and stop calling it universal. That word was doing a lot of work.
