leveling a 9A on a wood floor

Bench 9A, wood floor over joists, shop is a 1920s house addition. Level on the bed says I'm twisted once the carriage is parked at the headstock and again at the tail. Not a lot. Enough that a 6 inch test bar shows it. Before somebody tells me to buy a cabinet model, I'm not moving a cabinet up those stairs.
What I want is the least stupid way to keep this honest through a Spokane winter.

Need the number. Thou over what span. And is level sitting on ways or on carriage wing.
If you already did two-collar, post both readings. Without that we are guessing which way the floor goes.

Two-collar, 8 inches between collars. Headstock end collar is fat on the near side by a bit over a thou. Tailstock end is the other way, about the same. Level was on the ways, carriage parked out of the way. Floor is fir on 2x8s. You can feel the bench rack if you lean on the tailstock.

Wood floors are how you get a new hobby called shimming. Bolt the bench to something that isn't a trampoline or stop chasing tenths you can't hold. I've said this in here since the board was a month old.

You can level a lathe on wood if the bench isn't twisting under it. The lathe isn't the spring. The bench is. A diagonal in the bench frame does more than another shim under a foot, if Dave's lean test is right.

I shimmed mine and it was fine. Hardware store cedar shims under the lathe feet, snug, and I haven't thought about it in a year. Might be worth a try before you build anything.

Ken, yours is a cabinet 10 if I remember your intro. Shims under the cabinet feet are not the same as shims under a bench lathe sitting on a racking table. Don't send people under the lathe feet on this one.

Two-collar or you're guessing, and Dave already did it, so at least we're not in the usual mess. I'd stiffen the bench before I touch another foot. The winter part is real. My 9A moves a little every January and I just stop promising tenths until March.

Bookmarking. My floor is the same idea, different house. I don't have a number yet because I don't own a test bar and I'm not going to pretend a level on the headstock is the same thing.
